A 2½-year-old boy has died after the car he was travelling in collided with a transport truck on the Queensway Thursday night.

The collision between a small four-door car and the truck happened in the westbound lanes of Highway 417 near the Innes Road interchange at about 11:35 p.m.

Paramedics said the toddler was without vital signs when they arrived. He was transported to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, a 30-year-old man, was treated at the General Campus of the Ottawa Hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the transport truck was not injured.

Police have reopened all westbound lanes of the 417 between Walkley Road and Innes Road after closing them overnight following the crash.
