Too much odor in suburbs' natural gas
DETROIT, (UPI) -- Metro Detroit energy officials said they rerouted gas flow for about 500 suburban customers because the supply had been infused with too much odorizing agent.

DTE Energy said they received multiple calls about gas leaks in Harper Woods, Grosse Pointe and the surrounding area Wednesday night and Thursday morning and investigators determined there were no leaks, but rather an overabundance of odorizing agent in the natural gas flow, The Detroit News reported Thursday.

Spokesman Scott Simons said the odorless natural gas is paired with the odorizing agent so customers can detect leaks and officials have not yet determined what caused the problem that began late Wednesday.

Simons said officials are working to correct the problem and affected customers are in the meantime receiving gas flow from the west side of the system, which was not affected.
