U.S. markets flat Friday
NEW YORK, (UPI) -- U.S. markets were flat Friday and stocks around the globe were mixed.
In early-afternoon trading in New York, the Dow Jones industrial average added 13.60 points, 0.13 percent, to 10,447.77. The Standard & Poor's 500 index added 0.57 points, 0.05 percent, to 1,116.61. The Nasdaq composite index, at 2,306.65, lost 0.51 points or 0.02 percent.
The benchmark 10-year Treasury note fell 6/32 to yield 3.214 percent.
The Nikkei 225 index was flat in Japan, dropping 0.04 percent, 4.38, to 9,995.02, and the Shanghai composite index in China fell 1.84 percent. Stocks were higher in Europe in midday trading, but gains were slight, ranging from 0.08 percent in Germany to 0.24 percent in Sweden. The pan-European DJ Stoxx 50 index rose 0.03 percent.
In Britain, the FTSE 100 index lost 0.06 percent, 3.05 points, to 5,250.84.
The euro fell to $1.2361 from Thursday's $1.2385. Against the yen, the dollar fell to 90.73 yen from Thursday's 90.97 yen.
