U.S. markets rise Tuesday

UPI/John Angelillo | Enlarge NEW YORK, (UPI) -- U.S. markets rose Tuesday after the New York Federal Reserve said business conditions improved in June.
In the survey that falls in the middle of the month, the New York Fed said its headline index extended its run of gains to 11 consecutive months.
In early afternoon trading, the Dow Jones industrial average
added 144.01 points, 1.41 percent, to 10,334.90. The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 17.42, 1.6 percent, to 1,107.17. The Nasdaq composite index of tech-dominated stocks rose 2 percent, 44.87 points, to 2,288.83.
The benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury note fell 10/32 to yield 3.299 percent.
The euro rose to $1.234 from Monday's $1.223. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 91.53 yen from Monday's 91.46 yen.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index rose 0.08 percent, 8.04, to 9,887.89.
In Britain, the FTSE 100 index rose 0.3 percent, 15.69, to 5,217.82.
