A Victoria police officer is in hospital after being stabbed in the neck and hands outside of a convenience store Monday.
Police said the female constable was by herself investigating the theft of a chocolate bar from the 7-Eleven store at around 9:15 a.m. PT when she was attacked by a man as she left the store.
Victoria police Sgt. Grant Hamilton said two people rushed to help the officer.
"There was a citizen driving by, saw the officer in trouble, exited his car, ran over, wrestled with the suspect as well and actually was able to grab the officer's handcuffs and handcuff him with the assistance of another citizen who had come up to help the officer," Hamilton said.
The 57-year-old man who was detained by the passersby was arrested but has not yet appeared in court, Hamilton said.
The officer's injuries are not life threatening.
