GREEN BAY -- Video games often serve as a distraction at home, but they're the inspiration for a class at a Wisconsin high school.

Southwest High School in Green Bay added a class called "Rocking, Strumming, Plunkin', Drummin'."

The entire class is focused on guitar, percussion and keyboards -- the main instruments in games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

The teacher of the class says it's growing in popularity.

"This new class is creating excitement and for students to come to school everyday excited about a course they're taking? That's awesome. That's what it's all about," says teacher Brandon Rockstroh.

Students say they like the class because they're learning music principles through instruments they're already into.
