[Help!] What do I use to open file

I downloaded file and my windows XP pro keeps asking me which program do I want to use to open the file; I tried Adobe with no luck please help!

You don't want to open them just save them & then load them on your box ...

Yes that is what would usually happen but for some odd reason I am now being asked to choose from a small list of programs to use to open the file and when I try them allI can not get them open. Unfortunately I am a newby somwhat and not sure how to do everything yet

That is because you must be double clicking on file when moving it ... it is no big deal just close the list that pops up & go about your business like normal .... Cheers
