What does it mean when you get the 'red rings of death' on Xbox 360?

When I turn it on it shows three red lights and then it turns it self off.

You will not be able to play it any more till it is fix, the POST or 'power on self test' has failed because of a hardware of software failure.

Its dead you need to get it repaired. Do it yourself if you feel confident enough?

If it is still under warranty call Microsoft and they will fix it for free.
