[Confused!] What is FTA and other terms related to it?

I've been looking around a little bit, and I'm not understanding what is going on with FTA. That does stand for Free to Air, right? So, I'm looking because I think I want to get a receiver and dish and get some free tv, but it doesn't look like I would be able to do this. I don't understand what all this PS is or IKS, or AJG, or N3, etc. It's all so confusing to me.

So, I guess the question is, what do all these things stand for? Could someone post a guide, or some sort of terminology for free to air/satellite, please?

I want to get into it, but if I have absolutely no clue, there's no point. I want to know if it's worth my while. Friends of mine have it, but asking them is like talking to a brick wall. They don't seem to know what anything is, they just know how they were shown how to use it, so this seems to be my best option.

Could I please get information on this?

Thanks in advance,
