Woman charged with killing mom in 1993
NORWICH, Conn., (UPI) -- A Connecticut mother-of-two allegedly beat her adoptive mother to death 17 years ago, police said.

Irene Reynolds, 38, of Sprague, Conn., was charged with first-degree murder Friday after months of investigation by the Norwich Police Department's Cold Case squad, The Hartford Courant reported. She was being held on $2 million bail.

Bertha Reynolds, 60, was found dead in her home in Norwich July 9, 1993. While her death, from what police describe as a violent beating, was ruled a homicide, no suspects were identified at the time.

Investigators have not said what led them to Irene Reynolds or whether a reward offered for information helped crack the case.

Junie Daniels, who lives in the same two-family house as Irene Reynolds, said her neighbor has an adult son and another child in second grade. She said Reynolds delivers newspapers for the Norwich Bulletin.

"She works hard and takes care of her kids," Daniels said. "We've had cookouts, and our kids played together."
