Lohan staying in sober-living house

LOS ANGELES, Actress Lindsay Lohan has signed herself into a Los Angeles sober-living facility,

The 24-year-old "Mean Girls" and "Freaky Friday" star is scheduled to start serving a 90-day jail sentence Tuesday for violating her probation in a 2007 driving under the influence conviction. However, Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore has said women sent to jail for non-violent crimes usually serve 25 percent or less of their sentences because of overcrowding in the prison system.

People.com said Lohan checked into Pickford Lofts, a sober-living house founded by famed defense attorney Robert Shapiro, Wednesday.

"Robert Shapiro is not yet Lindsay's official lawyer," an insider told the Web site.

"Shapiro can assess Lindsay's situation before he makes an announcement that he's her lawyer," the source added. "She's trying to make an effort. The hope is that the judge either reduces the sentence or tosses it out to have Lindsay stay in a facility instead of jail. The hope is that the judge sees Lindsay getting treatment and puts her in an inpatient (rehab) program for 90 days instead of jail. Lindsay is not trying to fight or appeal the sentence, but adjust it."
