AMC-21, Superbird Satellites Ready for Launch

Arianespace is preparing for its fifth launch of the year, a mission scheduled for Thursday that will place two satellites in orbit.

The satellites are the AMC-21 for SES AMERICOM and the Superbird-7 for Japanese operator Space Communications Corporation. Lift-off of the Ariane 5 is set for late Thursday afternoon/early evening during a launch window that opens at 4:44 p.m. Eastern.

Arianespace's last mission took place July 7, and included the launch of satellites for ProtoStar and Arabsat.

Coverage of the launch is available at the Arianespace Web site, at Arianespace. Satellite industry insider Harry Thibedeau will host the English-language commentary for the mission.
