Two boys, aged 12 and 15, have been arrested in connection with shootings in Winnipeg.

The 12-year-old is facing charged of attempted murder for allegedly trying to shoot another boy, but failed when the gun didn't go off.

Police were called at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday about shots fired in the 700 block of Alverstone Street in the city's West End.

Everyone had fled the area by the time officers arrived, but police learned a group of boys had confronted another group and an argument ensued. One boy pulled out a gun and fired it into the air and in the direction of the fleeing group.

Then just after 7 p.m. two groups of boys got into a fight in the 500 block of Home Street, not far from the first incident.

Again, one boy pulled out a gun. He fired it at a home and then pointed it at one of the other boys but the gun failed to discharge the second time.

The boy was then disarmed by people nearby and held until police arrived.

Along with charges of attempted murder, the 12-year-old is facing charges of discharging a firearm with intent, reckless discharge of a firearm and a number of other firearms-related offences.

The 15-year-old boy has already been charged with numerous firearms offences.

Both boys have been detained in custody at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
