SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Officials are investigating why a ride at a South Florida amusement park malfunctioned Thursday night.

The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. at Santa's Enchanted Forest. Twelve riders and three cars got stuck on the "Crazy Mouse" roller coaster for 30 minutes. One rider said there was a collision on the tracks. "We got to the top of the ride and the car stalled for about a minute, the car behind us hit our car, it accelerated our car and then it stopped again," said Rommel Lutchman.

Firefighters helped Lutchman, along with the other riders, down safely using a cherry picker. Crews also rescued children who were stuck on the ride by climbing down the roller coaster's track with the kids in hand.

A witness snapped pictures of the amusement park rescue and sent it to 7 News.

A spokeswoman for the amusement park blamed a mechanical malfunction for the mishap. "Well the chains got stuck and so the rescue teams were called in and the people were basically were taken down. No one is hurt and the people that were inconvenienced have been given tickets, so they can come back and enjoy the park whenever they want," said Maritza Guiterrez.

The ride will remain closed until it is fully inspected and repaired.
