Two men were shot at a north side restaurant Saturday afternoon, police in Edmonton say.

According to police, the shooting took place outside of an Earl's restaurant on 137th Avenue and 50th Street at around 3:20 p.m. MT.

Police said a man in his 20s approached the restaurant and fired several shots at two men standing outside the front door. A third man who was with the victims during the incident was not injured.

The victims, both Caucasian men in their 20s, were taken to hospital where one required immediate surgery.

Police did not say how many times the men were shot or where on their bodies they were hit.

Police said it appeared the men were targeted and there was no evidence to suggest it was a random attack. The names of the two victims have not been released, but both are known to police.

The shooter fled to a car in the parking lot and drove off following the shooting. He was wearing grey sweat pants, black gloves, a black hooded sweatshirt and a red T-shirt.

Investigators were scouring the restaurant for clues and dozens of witnesses were being interviewed.

Anyone with information was asked to call Edmonton police at 780-423-4567.
