Police say a shooting in Abbotsford, B.C., early Saturday morning was actually the result of an accidental discharge of a firearm.

Abbotsford police were called to a suite in an apartment building in the 3200-block of Cheam Drive. It was alleged two men broke into the suite and opened fire, leaving a 38-year-old man with gunshot wounds.

However, after conducting several interviews, police say it has been determined the man was injured when a gun accidentally went off.

A handgun was seized and the investigation continues.

Police say because there was no dispute and no armed suspects were involved, it "substantially decreases what were obvious initial public safety concerns."

No charges have been laid.
