Three police cars were damaged in the collision Friday night outside a police station.

A pedestrian and a police officer are recovering from injuries after a crash outside a Vancouver police station involving an alleged impaired driver.

In a written release, Vancouver police said a pedestrian was walking on Main Street near Cordova Street at about 10:30 p.m. PT Friday when he was hit by a car.

The force of the collision threw the pedestrian, a 60-year-old Vancouver resident, into a parked car.

The vehicle that struck him continued onto Cordova Street where it crashed into three parked police cars. The force of the crash caused a chain reaction, resulting in the first parked police car hitting the police car parked in front of it which, in turn, hit the police car parked in front of it.

An officer who was sitting in the last car suffered back and neck injuries as a result of the crash. The pedestrian suffered scrapes to his hand and complained of abdominal pain. Both were treated on scene and released.

Two unmarked police cars were taken out of service, one with significant damage. A third marked police car was slightly damaged.

Police say a 36-year-old Port Coquitlam man is facing impaired driving-related charges.
