Another Retrans Dispute Brewing for DISH

A number of broadcast stations have informed viewers that they could lose access to the local TV feed at the end of the year because of an ongoing retransmission consent dispute with DISH Network.

The stations are owned by ComCorp, and are spread throughout Texas and Louisiana. The information provided to viewers appeared on individual Web sites for the stations, and not all ComCorp stations are running the message.

Stations carrying details about the retransmission consent talks between the two sides provided uniform information, including that the current deal for carriage of the affected broadcast signals by the DBS service expires on Dec. 31. In their arguments, the stations said their feeds have been offered to DISH for "less than two pennies a day."

The stations are located in the Tyler/Jacksonville/Longview market and in Brownsville, both in Texas, as well as the El Paso/Las Cruces area in Texas and New Mexico. Also, stations in Lafayette, Shreveport and Baton Rouge in Louisiana are carrying the same message.

The stations are a mix of NBC and FOX affiliates.

DISH declined to comment on the matter.
