Baby Matters infant recliners recalled

WASHINGTON, About 30,000 of a Pennsylvania company's infant recliners have been recalled because of safety hazards, a federal watchdog agency says.

The Nap Nanny portable recliners were made in the United States and China and sold by Baby Matters LLC of Berwyn, Pa., for about $130 each between January 2009 and July 2010.

The firm has received numerous reports of young infants falling from the recliners, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in announcing the voluntary recall. There also were several reports of infants falling off the side of the recliners despite use of a safety harness.

In addition, the commission said it is investigating a report of an infant dying while trapped between the recliner and the wall of an infant's crib.

Consumers were advised to stop using the recliners and contact Baby Matters for an $80 coupon that could go toward the purchase of a new recliner.
