Call of duty 4 multiplayer problem pc?

I play single player mode and works fine. i play multiplayer and my frames per second drop to 22-35fps. The set-up i have isintel duo e6600 @2.4ghz2g ramnvidia 8800gts 640mbwindows-xp pro --sp2.running latest updates for the game and punkbustergot the latest drivers for my graphics card.run the game on low settings.and does not work.
