The Coast Guard on Thursday suspended its search for a 20-foot pleasure craft with one adult and three children aboard that reportedly was taking on water a day earlier off San Diego.
"Since the initial call, Coast Guard surface and air assets, along with the San Diego Lifeguards, searched more than nine hours, covering 273 nautical miles," the Coast Guard said in a statement Thursday.
The Coast Guard conducted searches along the shoreline and off the coast for any indication of a vessel or people in distress Thursday morning before calling off its search at 11:46 a.m.
The Coast Guard became aware of the emergency at 5 p.m. (8 p.m. ET) Wednesday through a local vessel salvage company, which received the radioed Mayday call from a boat one mile north of Point Loma in San Diego, Coast Guard spokesman Henry Dunphy said.
That company then notified the Coast Guard, said Jetta Disco, a Coast Guard spokeswoman.
The Coast Guard hadn't received any reports of missing boats or missing persons, Dunphy said.
