Cuban ID'd as potential Rangers bidder

FORT WORTH, Texas, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is among the previously undisclosed bidders for the bankrupt Texas Rangers baseball team, an attorney revealed Tuesday.

Glenn Kurtz, an attorney for the prospective ownership group considered the favorites to land the team, said in a Fort Worth court hearing that the billionaire NBA owner was one of two potential bidders at an upcoming auction whose identities had not been officially disclosed, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Kurtz, who represents a group headed by Rangers President Nolan Ryan and Pittsburgh sports attorney Chuck Greenberg, confirmed media reports that Cuban was among the would-be bidders, responding to objections by telling Judge Michael Lynn the NBA owner's interest in the Rangers had been publicized "for weeks."

William Snyder, the Rangers' court-appointed chief restructuring officer, added that the undisclosed bidder had enough personal wealth to make a serious offer for the team, the Morning News said.

The independent-minded Cuban was rejected by Major League Baseball as a potential owner when he attempted to buy the Chicago Cubs in 2008.
