Dodgers place OF Ethier on disabled list
LOS ANGELES, (UPI) -- Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder and Triple Crown contender Andre Ethier was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken right pinkie finger, the team said.
Ethier was leading the National League in batting average, home runs and runs batted in when he hurt his finger during batting practice before Saturday's 4-1 Dodgers victory over the Padres.
Team doctors outfitted him with a splint in hopes he could continue to play with the injury, but Dodgers officials said a decision was made Tuesday to give the left-handed hitter time away from the game to heal.
Ethier is the major league leader in batting average with .392 and RBI with 38, and co-leads the National League with 11 home runs.
Los Angeles called outfielder Xavier Paul up from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Ethier's spot on the roster.
