FDA issues 'Magic Power Coffee' warning
WASHINGTON, (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning Monday about consuming a dietary supplement sold as "Magic Power Coffee."
The FDA said the product is sold nationwide over the Internet and in a multilevel marketing scheme as a treatment for sexual enhancement. But officials said Magic Power Coffee contains the drug ingredient hydroxythiohomosildenafil, a chemical similar to sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra.
" Hydroxythiohomosildenafil, like sildenafil, may interact with prescription drugs known as nitrates, including nitroglycerin, and cause dangerously low blood pressure," the agency said, noting it is warning consumers not to use the product.
"Consumers who have Magic Power Coffee should stop using it immediately," officials said "The FDA advises consumers who have experienced any negative side effects from sexual enhancement products to consult a healthcare professional and to safely discard the product."
