Investigators are looking into what may have been a firebombing in the northwest neighbourhood of Royal Oak.
Calgary fire crews arrived at a house on the 100 block of Royal Ridge Terrace at about 9:25 pm on Wednesday night to find smoke and flames pouring from the lower level of the home.
"The firefighters entered and battled through high heat to bring the fire under control. The fire was confined to the lower level of the home but was damaged throughout by heavy smoke and heat," police said in a release.
Witnesses have told authorities they saw a person throwing something through a window just as the fire started.
Nobody was home at the time and no one was injured, but the damage is extensive.
