A western Newfoundland man is facing charges after a car that police say was sabotaged was in an accident on the Trans-Canada Highway over the weekend.

The 39-year-old man from Flat Bay, in the Bay St. George area, has been charged with mischief, endangering life and uttering threats.

Police said he's accused of intentionally loosening the lug nuts on a car wheel.

Police said the car lost control and went off the Trans-Canada Highway in western Newfoundland Saturday, after one of its wheels came off.

The RCMP said that people in the vehicle only received minor injuries.

The Flat Bay man is scheduled to appear in court in Stephenville in March.
