GE front load washers recalled
WASHINGTON, (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of GE front-load washing machines due to fire and shock hazards.

About 181,000 front-load washing machines were imported from China by GE Appliances & Lighting of Louisville, Ky., and sold nationwide from December 2006 and May 2010 for about $700.

A wire in the washers can break, which could result in shock or fire if the wire makes contact with a metal part of the washtub, the commission said.

The recall involves washing machines without auxiliary water heating. The recalled machines were made between December 2006 and February 2010. The model number on the recalled machines begin with WBVH5. The serial numbers begin with AM, AR, AS, AT, DM, DR, DS, FM, FR, FS, GM, GS, HM, HR, HS, LM, LR, LS, MM, MR, MS, RM, RR, RS, SM, SR, SS, TM, TR, TS, VM, VR, VS, ZL, ZM, ZR, or ZS.

Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled washers, unplug them from the electrical supply and contact GE for a free repair.
