OTTAWA (Reuters) – The latest jobless figures in Canada, which showed unemployment hit a seven-year high of 8.0 percent in March, are not good news, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Thursday.

"Obviously this is not good news. At the same time this is the kind of level of unemployment we were expecting," he told a televised news conference in Edmonton, Alberta.

"We are -- while not surprised -- obviously concerned about the rising jobless numbers."
