I own a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop and last year I received a virus on it. I had to wipe clean the entire hard drive and start new. I re-installed windows and everything, but of course some of the original drivers that came on the computer were no longer installed. I had to add a few, such as a driver to get my touchpad working again, as well as a driver to re-install functions for my volume buttons on the front of the laptop. Ever since then, when I put an audio CD into the drive, nothing is recognized. Because of this, I can't import any music onto my computer for i-tunes or any other programs. I also can't burn any CDs, obviously. However, my drive DOES recognize DVD disks. I can play movies on my computer. Is this problem related to another driver issue that I can install? Or is there a more complicated problem? Any help is appreciated.

Most likely it's a driver problem, like you figured. That's what it sounds like. Take it up with the manufacturer's technical support.

try uninstalling (use add remove programs in my computer)and reinstalling itunes and allowing it to be you preference for audio files. you proublably just installed some other media device like realplayer that hijacked the preferences. there are other ways to do this but this is easy

It might be a driver problem. But I'm thinking it could instead be that your CD drive was probably originally installed with some kind of software. You can check which hardware it is by going to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager and clicking on CD Rom. Then see if you can get the software for that either from Dell or from the manufacturer. If it's just the driver you need, you should be able to download it from the manufacturer's site.If you're not able to find out which driver you need, you can go to these sites to get a software which checks your PC / laptop for you and tells you which driver/s you require or need to update.http://www.62nds.co.nz/pg/e21.phphttp://drivermagic.com/p/nph-welcome.phpOn the other hand, yes, you might have a player installed which your laptop doesn't recognise because it's not the default player. If you're using Windows, the default is Windows Media Player. See if you have it in Start > Programs. It also needs to be updated to newer versions, which you can get from the Microsoft site.If you had installed something else as well, e.g. Real Player, then there may be a conflict over which is the default player. You will have to uninstall one of them, or go into the settings / configurations of both and select just one to be your player, or disable one of them..
