Like what's already been said, you need a good resolution to make it worth it. Processor speed isn't usually a problem, but it all comes down to the real cost to use it. The blue-ray disks are more expensive and unless you want to use all the special features they are supposed to have like being interactive and bonus features a DVD may do what you want. If you think it is worth it and if you have an HDMI connection on both your laptop and home TV maybe with a good surround sound system it could be money well spent, again if you need or want it badly enough.
