I just bought the AMD Phenom II X4 945, but it is NOT the Black Edition. I believe it is 3GHz. The Motherboard is the Asus M2A-VM and the 5001 BIOS will be in it.Now, does the 5001 BIOS let me overclock the PIIX4 945 I just bought, or does it HAVE to be the Black Edition?
You can certainly overclock non-BE AMD cpus. You will be overclocking by raising the BUS speed from 200. Whereas, black edition cpus are easier to overclock because you simply increase the multiplier. http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/794287-amd-phenom-ii-x4-945-125w.html
You can overclock this by tinkering with the settings of your motherboard's FSB, its considerably more difficult though, so you'll need to know what you're doing.
