A Medicine Hat, Alta. man was arrested at Calgary International Airport on Friday for allegedly carrying a loaded pistol into the security area.

Calgary police said they were called to the airport's pre-boarding area at 7:50 a.m. by Canadian Air Transport Security Authority screening officers.

CATSA officers discovered a pistol during the carry-on baggage X-ray process, police said.

Police arrested a 41-year-old man and found an unregistered, fully loaded 9-mm handgun, as well as a second loaded magazine, inside a bag, they said.

The man, who hasn't been identified since he hasn't appeared before a justice of the peace, faces multiple firearms charges, including possession of a weapon at an aerodrome.
