Man allegedly left daughter for ballgame

PITTSBURGH, (UPI) -- An Ohio man who left his 6-year-old daughter alone at a restaurant while he attended a baseball game has been charged with child endangerment, police said.

Robert Strohmeyer, 42, was at a restaurant with his girlfriend and his two children when he and the girlfriend got into an argument, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Sunday.

The girlfriend left to go sit in their car, and Strohmeyer left with his son to attend a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game, leaving his daughter with money to pay for the food and telling her the girlfriend would return to pick her up, the newspaper said.

The restaurant manager called police after the girl was seen sitting alone.

About a half hour after police officers arrived, the girl's 8-year-old brother arrived alone, saying his father had told him to get his sister.

Police say they found Strohmeyer in a nearby parking lot drinking at a tailgate party, and arrested him.

He faces two charges of child endangerment and remains in jail awaiting arraignment, the Post-Gazette reported.

The children's mother, who lives in West Virginia, authorized the release of the youngsters to the girlfriend, the newspaper said.
