FORT MEADE --

A family is remembering a Fort Meade man who lost control of his 1993 GMC pickup truck with an attached trailer late Thursday afternoon and slammed into an unloaded citrus trailer on an unpaved road on the outskirts of the town.

Ollie Hill, 65, of Fort Meade, was crushed when his vehicle entered the north side of unpaved Trask Road, near the intersection of US 98 and Lake Hendry Rd., east of Fort Meade.

Hill was pinned by the steering wheel and dashboard, while his two-year-old grandson riding in a child seat next to him sustained injuries to his head and arm. The child was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital. He was later released.

Hill was able to contact his wife by phone to let her know that he had been in a wreck and was dying.

His son Jonathan says he loved his life, and he will be remembered best as a man of giving.
