SALT LAKE CITY —
Road conditions are still dangerous after a massive snowstorm Monday morning dumped several inches of snow throughout the entire state of Utah.
Anywhere from two to 12 inches of snow have been reported and most Utahns had to dig their car out. Fox 13's Gene Kennedy reported on Live at Eleven that residents had to dig out of more than a foot of snow at 600 South in Salt Lake City.
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Todd Johnson reports since midnight between Salt Lake County and Utah County, there were six injury accidents, 51 property damage crashes and 28 slide-offs. Semi trucks are restricted to chains in Parleys Canyon. Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons are restricted to chains or 4 X 4's.
The storm was a challenge for UHP troopers and for the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) snow plow drivers. Members of both agencies have been on the roads non-stop, since the snow started flying overnight. UDOT spokesperson Tania Mashburn said all the agency's 200 snow plows were used to clean up the snow.
UHP troopers are reminding everyone to use extra caution when driving.
"I would suggest staying home if at all possible during these type of road conditions. If you have to drive make sure you wear your seat belts, drive at a reasonable speed, within your driving ability," said UHP Sgt. Andrew Davenport.
UHP troopers say there are now black ice conditions on several roads.
