TRUMBALL, Conn. —
A toddler who was miraculously found alive more than an hour after falling into a rushing river, died Wednesday around 6 p.m.

The boy, identified as 1-year-old Thomas Chisholm, was transported to Bridgeport Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Doctors were frantically working to keep him alive, a hospital spokesperson said.

Emergency teams pulled the child from the Pequonnock River at around 12:30 p.m., a mile from where he fell in behind his families Trumbull home.

Local authorities including emergency personnel from Trumbull, Shelton and Bridgeport launched a massive search for the child some time before 11 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from a family member.

According to police, the boy was in the care of his mother when she apparently turned away for a few minutes, later realizing he was gone.

The boy would have turned two in February.
