BALTIMORE, (UPI) -- Adam Jones doubled home the go-ahead run in the sixth inning Thursday and the Baltimore Orioles held on to edge the New York Yankees 4-3.
Jake Arrieta earned the win in his major league debut.
The Orioles prevented the Yankees from sweeping the three-game series and ended what had been a three-game New York winning streak.
Baltimore trailed 3-2 through four innings but Scott Moore tied it in the fifth with a homer, his first of the year.
The Orioles got the winning run off A.J. Burnett (6-4) when Luke Scott tripled with one out in the sixth and scored on the double from Jones.
New York was held to four hits, all of them given up by Arrieta in a six-inning performance. Arrieta (1-0) was called up from Class AAA Norfolk Thursday to make the start. He walked four and struck out six.
The Baltimore relief corps provided three hitless innings and David Hernandez finished things off by capturing his first career save.
It was only the second win in 14 games for the Orioles.
