MLB: Chicago Cubs 12, Los Angeles Angels 1
CHICAGO, (UPI) -- Carlos Zambrano tossed seven strong innings and was backed by an 18-hit Chicago attack Sunday in the Cubs' 12-1 inter-league rout of the Los Angeles Angels.
Zambrano (3-5) made his best start since returning to the rotation several weeks ago. He allowed only one run on eight hits and one walk, and struck out seven to help the Cubs avenge a 12-0 shellacking by the Angels Saturday and avoid a three-game sweep at Wrigley Field.
Derrek Lee drove in four runs with a pair of hits, Geovanny Soto socked a solo homer and Tyler Colvin added a two-run single in the ninth inning for Chicago.
Ryan Theriot collected three hits, scored three runs and notched an RBI while Jeff Baker, Alfonso Soriano and Zambrano each added two hits and a run driven in the victory.
Angels starter Joe Saunders (5-8) was lit up for eight runs on nine hits over 2 2/3 innings.
