SEATTLE, Alex Rios smashed a go-ahead homer and Daniel Hudson threw six-plus solid innings Monday to boost the Chicago White Sox to a 6-1 win over Seattle.
Rios' two-run blast in the fifth broke a 1-1 tie and put the White Sox ahead for good. Andruw Jones added a solo homer and Gordon Beckham and Omar Vizquel each contributed two hits and an RBI for Chicago.
The White Sox increased their lead over Minnesota and Detroit to 2 1/2 games in the American League Central with the victory.
Hudson (1-0), making only his fourth major league start, held the Mariners to only one run in 6 2/3 innings, scattering five hits, walking four and striking out six.
Seattle starter David Pauley (0-2) was touched for three runs in six innings.
