OAKLAND, Calif., May 20 (UPI) -- Justin Verlander gave up four hits in going the distance Wednesday and Brandon Inge ignited a four-run seventh that boosted Detroit to a 5-1 win over Oakland.

Verlander and Dallas Braden matched shutout efforts through six innings before Inge homered to open the seventh.

Braden was making his first appearance in Oakland since throwing a perfect game against Tampa Bay May 9.

After Inge's homer, Gerald Laird reached on a bunt single to drive Braden out of the game and Laird went to second on a sacrifice. One out later, Austin Jackson singled in Laird and Jackson advanced to second on the throw home. After Johnny Damon was walked intentionally, Casper Wells doubled home both runners.

Verlander (5-2) threw 116 pitches, striking out five and walking one. It was the seventh complete game of his six-year career.

Braden (4-4) gave up two runs in six-plus innings on six hits.
