MLB: New York Mets 6, Florida 5

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, (UPI) -- Josh Thole delivered a tie-breaking pinch-hit single in the sixth inning Wednesday and the New York Mets hung on to outlast Florida 6-5.

After Florida scored a pair of runs in the fifth to forge a 4-4 deadlock, the Mets came right back in the next frame off rookie Alex Sanabia (0-1), who was making only his second major-league appearance, regaining the lead and avoiding a sweep in a three-game set at San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In the rally, Jason Bay reached third on Dan Uggla's fielding error and scored when Thole -- pinch-hitting for Mets pitcher Elmer Dessens (2-1) -- stroked an RBI single.

New York added a much-needed insurance tally in the seventh on Bay's run-scoring single.

Francisco Rodriguez secured the rain-delayed win, registering his 18th save despite allowing two hits in the ninth as the Mets snapped a four-game road losing streak.

The Marlins lost despite pounding out 17 hits, leaving 13 men on base.
