MLB: New York Yankees 6, Seattle 1

SEATTLE, (UPI) -- Mark Teixeira hit two solo homers Friday and the New York Yankees ran their winning streak to seven games with a 6-1 decision over Seattle.

The outcome ended an unusual evening in which the Yankees had expected to face Cliff Lee, a pitcher they had also hoped to obtain in a trade over the weekend.

Instead, Lee was traded to Texas prior to the game and did not make the start against the Yankees.

Teixeira hit his homers in the first and ninth innings and also scored on a two-run triple by Robinson Cano during a four-run sixth.

New York expanded its lead in the American League East to three games over Tampa Bay, which had its six-game winning streak halted earlier in the evening.

Phil Hughes (11-2) got the win, giving up a run on six hits in seven innings.

David Pauley (0-1) made the emergency start for the Mariners after having made three relief appearances this season.

Pauley gave up only two hits over five-plus innings and just one of the three runs he allowed was earned.
