MLB: New York Yankees 8, Cleveland 0

CLEVELAND, Mark Teixeira and Brett Gardner keyed an early offensive explosion Wednesday that sent the New York Yankees coasting to an 8-0 win over Cleveland.

The Yankees scored all their runs over the first four innings, but none of them came on an Alex Rodriguez homer. Rodriguez, who has gone six games without a home run, remained stuck on 599 for his career.

Rodriguez did open the scoring with an RBI single in the first. After Gardner singled in a run in the second, Teixeira delivered a two-run base hit.

Gardner also had an RBI double as part of a three-run third and Robinson Cano finished the scoring with a solo homer in the fourth.

New York pounded out 13 hits, including six for extra bases, making things easy for starter A.J. Burnett (9-8). He managed to keep the Indians scoreless for 6 1/3 innings despite giving up seven hits and walking three.

Fausto Carmona (10-8) was roughed up for seven runs on 10 hits in 2 2/3 innings. It was his shortest appearance of the season.

The start of the game was delayed by rain 42 minutes.
