MLB: Pittsburgh 2, Chicago Cubs 1
CHICAGO, (UPI) -- Jose Tabata's ninth-inning double provided the go-ahead run Monday and the Pittsburgh Pirates edged the Chicago Cubs 2-1.
After Andrew Cashner (0-2) allowed a single to Ryan Doumit to start the ninth and walked Ryan Church one out later, Cubs closer Carlos Marmol was brought in to face Tabata.
The Pirates outfielder sliced a double to the right-center field gap and Doumit scored, barely avoiding a tag at the plate.
Paul Maholm (5-6) allowed only one run on seven hits in eight innings to help the Pirates snap a 17-game road losing streak and raise their record against the Cubs to 8-2 this season.
Octavio Dotel finished up with a scoreless ninth to notch his 15th save.
Chicago starter Randy Wells held Pittsburgh to one run over six innings.
