MLB: Tampa Bay 9, Florida 8 (11 innings)

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., (UPI) -- Jason Barlett's two-run single highlighted a four-run 11th inning Saturday and the Tampa Bay Rays hung on to down Florida 9-8 in an inter-league game.

Tampa Bay's big inning broke open a 5-5 tie. Barlett's two-run hit off Scott Strickland came after the Rays scored two runs on a pair of bases-loaded walks issued by Jorge Sosa (1-2).

But the Rays had to hang on for dear life in the bottom of the frame as the Marlins scored three times off Lance Cormier, who surrendered a two-run single to Chris Coughlin and an RBI hit to Gaby Sanchez.

Coughlin was at third with the potential run with nobody out, but Andy Sonnenstein collected his first save of the year by striking out Brian Barden and Anibal Sanchez and getting Dan Uggla to fly out to end the game.

James Shields (6-6) got the win after tossing a scoreless 10th.

Coughlin and Hanley Ramirez each homered, drove in three runs and scored twice in Florida's loss.
