MLB: Toronto 6, San Diego 3
SAN DIEGO, (UPI) -- John Buck connected for a pair of homers and Aaron Hill drove in three runs Monday to power the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-3 win over San Diego.
Buck's two-run shot in the second inning put the Blue Jays ahead for good and his second blast, coming in the eighth, extended Toronto's advantage to 6-3. In all, the Blue Jays knocked six extra base hits, including three doubles by Hill, in the inter-league contest.
Starter Shawn Marcum (6-3) delivered seven strong innings, yielding two earned runs on six hits, walking two and striking out two. Kevin Gregg pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his 16th save.
Padres starter Jon Garland (6-5) was touched for four runs on six hits, walking four and striking out seven.
The game was briefly delayed when an 5.7-magnitude earthquake shook Petco Park at 9:27 p.m. PDT in the bottom of eighth inning. The quake was strong enough make the foul poles sway, but play resumed after a few moments.
