Motorola apparently plans a "Droid 2 Global" to appeal to jet-setting smartphone users.
Having already improved the keyboard on the original Droid to create the Droid 2, Motorola will now apparently boost the clock speed of the Droid 2 to 1.2-GHz, according to specifications that briefly appeared on the Motorola Web site, according to InToMobile and Android Guys.
As the name suggests, the Droid 2 Global includes support for calling over 200 countries, together with 3G hotspot capabilities for when travelers don't have access to a local Internet cafe. The "Droid" lineup uses Verizon Wireless as its network.
The Droid 2 Global's screen dimensions will apparently be left unchanged, but with an "improved touch screen". Inside, the phone will hide the 1.2-GHz processor, up to 40 Gbytes of memory, and a 5-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash. Motorola also touts a thinner keyboard with an improved tactile response. It will run Android 2.2.
As hard as it is to believe, the original Motorola Droid launched less than a year ago. Since then, Verizon has launched the Motorola Droid X and Droid 2. Motorola did not disclose a release date for the Droid 2 Global, however.
