Police in Nanaimo are asking for the public's help in solving the city's first homicide of the year, after a woman was found dead on a residential street on Wednesday night.
The victim, who is in her early 20s, was found at around 11 p.m. PT at the corner of Selby Street and Milford Crescent, according to RCMP Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong.
"We received a call from a passerby of what we call a man down or a person down. While en route to that call, we received another call from some other people in the area that they heard a lady crying for help," she said
"Upon arrival we found this young lady on the ground and she was severely injured. The paramedics made an assessment and she was not alive," she said.
A police dog unit was immediately called out to search the scene, but no suspects have been arrested. About 50 officers have since been assigned to the case.
The victim's name or the cause of death has not been released.
