Next up: License plate ads
SACRAMENTO, (UPI) -- Ads are everywhere: TV, magazines, billboards, stores -- and now California is considering putting them on license plates.
Lawmakers have asked for a feasibility study to determine whether it would be possible to turn license plates into mini-billboards, the Los Angeles Times reported.
It wouldn't be all advertising. Part of the proposal involves putting up Amber Alerts, road conditions and even personal messages.
But critics say digital license plate messages would make driving distractions even worse and some warn hackers could hijack the system or the state could use them to track the number of miles a person drives.
Inglewood Sen. Curren Price introduced the proposal, which is scheduled to go before the Assembly's Transportation Committee Tuesday.
"It does offer some interesting possibilities," Price said.
