NHL: Chicago 3, San Jose 2 (OT)
CHICAGO, May 22 (UPI) -- Dustin Byfuglien scored with 7:36 left in the first overtime Friday, bringing Chicago within a victory of the conference title with a 3-2 win over San Jose.
The Blackhawks took a 3-0 lead in the Western Conference finals, and a home win in Game 4 Sunday will give them a shot at the Stanley Cup. The last of Chicago's three Stanley Cup championships came 49 years ago.
Chicago defenseman Brian Campbell scooped up a loose puck at the blue line and from the right point fired it around the boards.
Dave Bolland gained control behind the San Jose net and sent a pass out front, from where Byfuglien fired a one-timer past Evgeni Nabokov.
Bolland also gave Chicago a 2-1 lead with 6:55 remaining in the third period, but Patrick Marleau scored his second goal of the game with 4:23 left to force overtime.
Antti Niemi saved 44-of-46 shots to get the win. Nabokov made 38 stops.
Only three teams have ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a seven-game NHL playoff series, but one of those teams did it this year.
Philadelphia dug itself a 3-0 hole before coming back to eliminate Boston in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The Flyers currently hold a 2-1 lead over Montreal in the Eastern finals, which resume Saturday.
